MARBURG, July 4, 2018
German teenager Rudolf Molleker recorded his second win over compatriot Yannick Hanfmann in as many meetings between the two. The 17-year-old from Oranienburg rallied past the No. 2 seed of the Marburg Open 4-6, 7-6(4), 6-4 on Tuesday afternoon.
Molleker continues his good run of form on the ATP Challenger Tour, which culminated in a first title win at the Neckarcup in Heilbronn six weeks ago. En-route to his maiden trophy, the World No. 283 beat Hanfmann in the Round of the last 16.
Following two ATP World Tour grass-court events in Stuttgart and Halle, Molleker is now back on clay, winning his sixth consecutive match. He withstood 15 aces from Hanfmann, ranked more than 170 places above the youngster, and capitalized on all of his three break point chances to secure victory in two hours and 17 minutes.
Molleker will next take on fellow German Julian Lenz, who also entered the main draw with a wild card. The World No. 689 from Giessen knocked out Sebastian Ofner of Austria 6-1, 7-6(4) in one hour and 19 minutes on Monday.
The field in Marburg is led by Jurgen Zopp from Estonia. The 30-year-old Tallinn native opened his title bid with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Spanish veteran Daniel Gimeno-Traver. Zopp will next face Juan-Ignacio Londero from Argentina.
