SAN BENEDETTO, July 19, 2015
Albert Ramos-Vinolas took the title at the € 64,000 ATP Challenger San Benedetto Tennis Cup, winning the finals on Sunday evening against Alessandro Giannessi 6-2, 6-4.
The second seed from Barcelona, who also didn’t lose a set in the pair’s two previous meetings, was in control of the match right from the beginning against the Italian wild card. Ramos hit five aces and won 69% of his first service points to claim his seventh ATP Challenger title after one hour and 35 minutes.
“First of all congratulations to Albert and to the organization of the tournament, who did a great job,” Giannessi said during the ceremony. “After eight months without playing tennis, I am very happy with this week, which allowed me to go back to the top level.”
Ramos lifted his first trophy of the season. “Italy is like a second home to me. I won four Challengers here. Special thanks to the spectators, who were really fair, although I played against a local player,” the 27-year-old stated.
Ramos takes away € 9,200 in prize money as well as 100 ATP ranking points and is making his way to Bastad’s Skistar Swedish Open, facing with Luca Vanni another Italian in the opening round of the ATP 250 event.
