Orlando Luz won the Wilhelmshöhe Open in Kassel on Sunday. The 20-year-old Brazilian emerged victorious from the singles title match with compatriot and No. 4 seed Joao Souza 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. Luz has become the first player from Brazil to lift the trophy at the $25,000 ITF Pro Circuit clay-court event.

The World No. 614 broke his opponent’s serve five times to prevail after two hours and 25 minutes. Following his triumph in Vic, Spain, Luz captured his second title of the season, his fourth overall.

“It was a great week for me here,” Luz told after the match.

His opponent had to battle through the qualifying and ran a bit out of steam in his 12th match in Kassel. “I am really tired right now,” Souza had to admit.

Both singles finalists also competed in Saturday’s doubles title match. This time Joao Souza got the better of his fellow South American. Souza teamed up with David Vega Hernandez of Spain to edge past Orlando Luz and Marcelo Zormann Da Silva of Brazil 6-1, 6-4. The encounter lasted one hour and one minute.
