Jan Choinski ended the run of Belgian qualifier Zizou Bergs, winning 6-3, 6-4. The 22-year-old German saved all four break points he faced, converting two of his own chances to advance in one hour and 34 minutes.
“I played a solid first set but struggled a bit in the second. I am happy to be through,” Choinski commented afterwards. He will next play Bernabé Zapata Miralles of Spain, who edged out Elliot Benchetrit of France 7-5, 6-0 in one hour and 20 minutes.
