The singles semi-finals of the LVI Copa Sevilla will be played without any home favourites. Sergio Gutierrez-Ferrol, the last Spaniard standing at the €64,000 ATP Challenger clay-court event, fell in the stage of the final eight on Thursday evening.
Tomislav Brkic from Bosnia and Herzegovina fought past the World No. 162, winning 6-3, 6-7(7), 6-2. The 28-year-old from Mostar broke Gutierrez-Ferrol seven times to prevail after two hours and 26 minutes. Brkic will next take on Slovakian qualifier Alex Molcan, who knocked out Frenchman Kenny de Schepper 6-2, 6-2 in 78 minutes. The 20-year-old Presov native will appear in his first semi-final at ATP Challenger level.
Later in the evening, Kimmer Coppejans of Belgium edged out Facundo Arguello of Argentina 6-3, 6-7(4), 6-1 and Pedja Krstin from Serbia rallied past Lithuanian qualifier Laurynas Grigelis 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.
