Molcan In Sevilla: From Qualifying To His First ATP Challenger Final

World No. 538 Alex Molcan continues his impressive run of form by reaching the final of the LVI Copa Sevilla. The 20-year-old from Slovakia rallied past Tomislav Brkic from Bosnia and Herzegovina 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 on Friday evening a the Real Club de Tenis Betis.

Molcan, who claimed three ITF Pro Circuit titles on home soil ahead of his start at the €64,000 ATP Challenger event in Andalusia, outpointed his opponent 94-79 to secure his 22nd match win in a row after two hours and 11 minutes.

In his first Challenger final, Molcan will face Kimmer Coppejans. The 24-year-old Belgian qualifier fought past Pedja Krstin of Serbia 4-6, 6-2, 6-3. Coppejans converted five of his 12 break point chances to prevail after two hours and 25 minutes. The match ended at midnight local time.

Molcan and Coppejans will meet for the first time. The latter is seeking his fifth ATP Challenger title, his first since Tampere 2016.

Earlier in the day, Gerard Granollers and Pedro Martínez clinched the doubles title. The No. 4 seeds won the all-Spanish final against wild card entries Daniel Gimeno Traver and Ricardo Ojeda Lara 6-0, 6-2. The encounter lasted only 44 minutes.
