The quarterfinals of the Pekao Szczecin Open are set. Alexey Vatutin rallied past Lorenzo Giustino 6-7(10), 6-1, 6-0 in Thursday’s longest second round match of the €127,000 ATP Challenger clay-court event.
The 25-year-old from Russia capitalized on nine of his 12 break point chances to prevail in two hours and five minutes. Vatutin will next take on No. 4 seed Guido Andreozzi of Argentina, who defeated Mario Vilella Martínez from Spain 6-4, 6-3.
German teenager Rudolf Molleker also advanced to the stage of the final eight, winning 6-3, 7-5 against fifth favourite Thiago Monteiro of Brazil. The 17-year-old will next play Italian lucky loser Roberto Marcora.
