SZCZECIN, September 16, 2018
Guido Andreozzi has claimed his third ATP Challenger Tour title of the season. The 27-year-old Argentine won the Pekoa Szczecin Open. Andreozzi fought past Spanish teenager Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 in Sunday’s singles final of the €127,000 clay-court event.
Andreozzi, who lifted the trophies in Punta del Este and Tunis earlier this year, broke his opponent five times and won seven points more to prevail after two hours and 15 minutes.
“It was a very tough week, mentally as well as physically,” said Davidovich Fokina, who appeared in his first Challenger title match. “It was a good final at high level and I will continue work hard in order to win a trophy.”
“I am very pleased to win the title here. It is a big and very nice Challenger,” said Andreozzi, the fourth seed. He takes away €18,290 in prize money as well as 125 ATP-Ranking points. Andreozzi will crack the top 100 on Monday for the first time.
