Top seed Dominic Thiem won his 11th ATP World Tour title on Sunday, defeating 2012 champion Martin Klizan from Slovakia 6-3, 6-1 to triumph at the St. Petersburg Open.
The World No. 8 from Austria saved both break points he faced, capitalizing on four of his own seven chances to prevail in one hour and eight minutes.

“I think that I was raising up my level from the first to the last match and obviously I played my best match today,” Thiem said. “It was pretty close in the beginning. He was playing very well at the start of the match, but then I did one break, which was very important. From this moment on, I think I had control of the match.”
Thiem takes away $209,645 in prize money as well as 250 ATP-Ranking points.
Italians take doubles crown
Earlier in the day, Matteo Berrettini and Fabio Fognini clinched the doubles title. The all-Italian duo beat Roman Jebavy from the Czech Republic and Dutchman Matwe Middelkoop 7-6(6), 7-6(4). The final lasted one hour and 39 minutes.
“It was really tough, for sure,” Fognini said. “I’m really happy. I think it was a really great week for us, the first time that we played together. So it’s good to leave St. Petersburg with the trophy.”
