Roger Federer captured his ninth hometown title at the Swiss Indoors Basel. The top seed of the ATP World Tour 500 event ended the terrific week of Romanian qualifier Marius Copil 7-6(5), 6-4 in Sunday’s final.

Federer converted three of the five break point chances to secure his 99th career ATP World Tour singles title crown after one hour and 34 minutes. Only Jimmy Connors (109) has more tour-level titles than the Swiss maestro.

“To come through and win again here in my hometown, never knowing if this might be your last time that you had the opportunity to play a final, maybe win for the last time here in my city, it obviously means a lot to me and it becomes very emotional,” Federer said.

Earlier in the day, Dominic Inglot of Great Britain and Croatian Franko Skugor clinched the doubles title. The duo defeated Alexander and Mischa Zverev 6-2, 7-5. The encounter lasted one hour and 10 minutes.
