Three US-Americans and one Canadian booked their spot in the semi-finals of the Charlottesville Men’s Pro Challenger on Friday. Bradley Klahn from the United States, the top seed of the $75,000 ATP Challenger event, defeated compatriot Bjorn Fratangelo 6-3, 6-3.

The World No. 101 was in control of the encounter, didn’t face a break point and capitalized on three of his own chances to advance in one hour and three minutes. Klahn will next take on US-American lucky loser Tommy Paul, who edged out big-serving Croat Ivo Karlovic 7-6(5), 6-4. Paul withstood 17 aces, winning 52 per cent of the total points played to secure victory in one hour and 12 minutes.

Earlier in the day, 2017 NCAA singles champion Thai-Son Kwiatkowski knocked out No. 2 seed and fellow US-American Michael Mmoh 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. In the pair’s first meeting, the 23-year-old wild card entry broke his opponent’s serve six times to prevail after two hours and four minutes.

Kwiatkowski will appear in the stage of the final four at an ATP Challenger Tour event for the first time, facing No. 8 seeded Canadian Peter Polansky, who beat Jelle Sels from the Netherlands 7-6(6), 6-4. The encounter lasted on hour and 33 minutes.
