ANDRIA, November 25, 2018
Top seed Ugo Humbert and the tournament’s No. 8 Filipo Baldi will compete in Sunday’s singles final of the Andria E Castel Del Monte Challenger. Humbert eased past Kevin Krawietz of Germany 6-3, 6-2.
The World No. 100 from France sent down 12 aces, saved both break points he faced, converting three of his own to advance in exactly one hour of play.
Later on Saturday, Baldi defeated sixth seeded Frenchman Quentin Halys 6-4, 6-4. The 22-year-old Milan native won 55 per cent of the total points played to secure victory in 61 minutes.
“I am happy with my match,” Baldi said. “I capitalized on my chances and gained the decisive breaks.”
Baldi and Humbert will meet for the second time. The World No. 180 from Italy beat the French en route to his maiden ATP Challenger title win in Ismaning last month.
“I beat Ugo in the past but it will be another tough match,” Baldi commented.
Humbert could lift his third Challenger trophy of the season following his triumphs in Segovia and Ortisei.
Also on Saturday, Karol Drzewiecki and Syzmon Walkow clinched the doubles title. The all-Polish duo fought past Marc-Andrea Huesler of Switzerland and David Pel from the Netherlands 7-6(10), 2-6, 11-9. The final lasted one hour and 39 minutes.
