HALLE, December 12, 2018
Germany’s most successful tournament will return to Halle in Westphalia next year with the 27th edition of the Gerry Weber Open. With the Swiss record champion Roger Federer as well as Germany’s superstar and reigning ATP Finals champion Alexander Zverev two of the Tour’s best players have already confirmed their participation in the ATP 500 greass-court event, held from 15 to 23 June 2019.
Dominic Thiem from Austria, 2017 Next Gen ATP Champion Hyeon Chung from South Korea as well as Japan’s best tennis player, Kei Nishikori, whose three-year contract is dated until Gerry Weber Open 2019, will join the field of the popular tournament.
“Of course, I’m dreaming of winning the Gerry Weber Open one day,” said Thiem, who lifted 11 ATP trophies in his career. The 25-year-old Austrian won the St. Petersburg Open last season and advanced to his first Grand Slam final at Roland Garros. Thiem also enjoys playing on grass. “I won the tournament in Stuttgart two years ago and reached the semi-finals in Halle.” Maybe 2019 will be the year to go one step further at the Gerry Weber Open.
In addition to world class tennis, fans can experience an outstanding entertainment off-court program including fashion shows and live-music. Next year’s edition will have a total financial commitment of about €2.1 million.
