Humbert And Darcis Fight Hard To Reach Cherbourg Challenger Final

French young gun Ugo Humbert and Belgian veteran Steve Darcis will compete in Sunday’s singles final of the €46,000 Challenger-Cherbourg-La Manche held at theComplexe Sportif Chantereyne.

Humbert rallied past the tournament’s No. 12 Mats Moraing of Germany 6-7(3), 6-4, 6-2. The top seed from Metz withstood 15 aces, breaking his opponent’s serve four times to seal victory in two hours and two minutes.

Later on Saturday, Darcis fought past No. 3 seeded Italian Stefano Travaglia 6-7(2), 6-3, 6-3. The 34-year-old Belgian won 54 per cent of the total points played to prevail after two hours and 36 minutes.

Humbert and Darcis will meet for the first time. The 20-year-old Frenchman is seeking his fourth ATP Challenger crown following his triumphs in Segovia, Ortisei and Andria last year. After missing one year on the tour due to injury, Darcis could clinch his first title since lifting the trophy in Bordeaux 2017.
