MARBELLA, March 24, 2019

The ATP Challenger Tour will start into the European clay-court season with the Casino Admiral Trophy in Marbella next week. The second edition of the €46,600 event will be held at the Puente Romano Tenis Club from 25 to 31 March 2019.

The field is led by World No. 87 Benoit Paire of France, who will open his title bid after a first-round bye against the winner of the encounter between Pedro Cachín of Argentina and Dutchman Thiemo de Bakker. Local favourite Pablo Andújar is seeded second. The 33-year-old Spaniard awaits either Austrian veteran Jürgen Melzer, who entered the singles main draw with a wild card, or compatriot Sergio Gutierrez-Ferrol.

Jiri Vesely, third seed at the Costa del Sol, will play the winner of the match between wild card entry Marko Djokovic and Italian Gian Marco Moroni. No. 4 seeded Portuguese Pedro Sousa could take on either young Spaniard Carlos Taberner or José Hernandez-Fernandez from the Dominican Republic.

Last year’s champion Stefano Travaglia of Italy will not return to Marbella. The 27-year-old will compete in the Open Harmonie Mutuelle held the same week at St. Brieuc, France.
