Top seed Pablo Andújar and No. 12 seed Pablo Martínez will compete in Sunday’s all-Spanish singles final of the €46,600 Ferrero Challenger Open. Andújar defeated wild card entry Carlos Taberner of Spain 6-3, 6-3.
The World No. 70, who lifted the trophy at the JC Ferrero Equelite Sport Academy last year, capitalized on five of his eight break point chances to return to the title match after one hour and 22 minutes.
Martínez edged past Jose Hernadez-Fernandez from the Dominican Republic, winning 7-6(4), 6-2. The 21-year-old from Valencia outpointed his opponent 85-65 to prevail after one hour and 43 minutes.
Andújar is seeking his second title of the season following his ATP Challenger triumph in Marbella last week. Martínez is bidding for his second Challenger career trophy after Bastad 2018. Andújar won the only previous meeting between the two in Santiago de Chile earlier this season.
Later on Saturday, Thomaz Bellucci of Brazil and Guillermo Duran of Argentina clinched the doubles title. The South Americans fought past Gerard Granollers and Pedro Martínez from Spain 2-6, 7-5, 10-5. The encounter lasted one hour and 37 minutes.
