NÜRNBERG, April 9, 2019
Organizers of the Nürnberger Versicherungscup announced Tuesday that Mona Barthel of Germany will join her compatriot Julia Görges at this year’s seventh edition of the WTA International Event. The 28-year-old Regensburg resident is looking forward to the tournament:
“I really enjoy the family atmosphere in Nürnberg. The short distance between the hotel and the venue is ideal. Everything is done for us players and the city is very attractive,” Barthel stated in a press release.
Barthel is currently ranked World No. 84 and achieved her best result in Nürnberg by reaching the quarterfinals five years ago.
“Mona Barthel is after Julia Görges the second German top player, who moved her centre of life to Bavaria. Our tournament will be a real home game for them,” tournament director Sandra Reichel of the sports agency MatchMaker said.
The tournament with a total prize money of $250,000 will be held on the clay courts of the 1. Fc Nürnberg from 18. to 25 May 2019. For tickets and more information, please click here.
