SAVANNAH, May 6, 2019

The singles champion has been crowned at the 2019 St. Joseph’s/Candler Savannah Challenger with Federico Coria defeating Paolo Lorenzi for the title on Sunday afternoon.

The No. 15 seed took to the court against a resurgent Italian and was able to take the opening set 6-3. In the second, Lorenzi stayed neck and neck with the first time finalist, and was able to break late in the set to take the second 4-6 and force a third. In the final and decisive set, it was the Argentine that came out on top and closed out the match with a final score of 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.

“I love you, Savannah,” said a excited Coria during the trophy presentation on court.

With the win, Coria picks up the first ATP Challenger singles title of his career and is projected to move to a new career high ranking of No. 216 in the world on Monday. This is the biggest title of the 27-year-old’s career and he only dropped one set en route to it.

In the doubles final No. 2 seeds Roberto Maytin and Fernando Romboli defeated Manuel Guinard and Arthur Rinderknech 6-7, 6-4, 11-9 to claim the SJ/C Savannah Challenger doubles title. The win on Sunday gave Maytin and Romboli their fourth ATP Challenger title as a team and they are currently on a eight match winning streak after taking home the title in Tallahassee last week as well.

Next up, the ATP Challenger Tour heads across the pond to Europe where players continue to prepare for the French Open. Everything is on the line as players are battling it out for precious ATP ranking points with hopes of improving their ranking for the Grand Slams. Challenger play returns to the USTA Pro Circuit in June when new events take over the cities of Little Rock, Arkansas and Columbus, Ohio.

The SJ/C Savannah Challenger is an ATP Challenger 80 event hosted at the The Landings Club that celebrated 11 years on the USTA Pro Circuit this week. Professional athletes from around the world competed for prize money, as well as valuable ATP Tour Ranking points.
