HAMBURG, May 15, 2019
Organizers of the Hamburg European Open announced on Wednesday that Philipp Kohlschreiber will return to the Rothenbaum tournament, which will be held from 20 to 28 July, 2019.
“I am really looking forward to the event,” Kohlschreiber stated in a press release. “I have heard that huge changes have been made. A new roof is being built and new organizers are at the start. They are certainly highly motivated – just like me.”
The 34-year-old German will make his 15th appearance in Hamburg. His best results came in 2014 and 2017 when Kohlschreiber advanced to the semi-finals. Kohlschreiber, who lifted ATP Tour trophies on home soil in Munich, Halle and Düsseldorf, is still seeking his first title in Germany’s second-largest city.
“I have said it many times: Hamburg is a great city, and I feel very comfortable there. However, for me as a Bavarian it is always a bit more difficult in the North of Germany than in Munich. But I’m really happy and I will give everything,” Kohlschreiber said.
