Jung Crowned Gwangju Open Champion

Jason Jung is the champion of the $54,160 Gwangju Open, held on the Jinwol International Tennis Courts. The No. 5 seed from Chinese Taipei defeated Dudi Sela of Israel 6-4, 6-2 in Sunday’s singles final.

After a first-round bye, Jung edged past Korean qualifier Min-Kyu Song, No. 9 seeded Belgian Ruben Bemelmans, Zhe Li of China and Akira Santillan from Australia en route to the title match. The 29-year-old didn’t drop a set all week.

Jung saved both break points he faced against Sela, capitalizing on three of his own seven chances to secure victory in one hour and eight minutes.

By lifting his fourth ATP Challenger trophy, he collects $7,200 in prize money as well as 80 ATP Ranking points.

Earlier in the day, Cheng-Peng Hsie of Chinese Taipei and Christopher Rungkat from Indonesia took the doubles title. The top seeds fought past the all-South Korean tandem Ji Sung Nam and Min-Kyu Song, winning 6-3, 3-6, 10-6. The encounter lasted 67 minutes.
