Lorenzo Giustino clinched his maiden title on the ATP Challenger Tour. The 27-year-old Italian lifted the trophy of the $54,160 Almaty Challenger held on clay at the Gorky Tennis Park in Almaty. Giustino defeated Federico Coria from Argentina 6-4, 6-4 in Sunday’s singles final.
The No. 5 seed from Italy capitalized on six of his eight break point opportunities to secure victory in one hour and 28 minutes.
Following nine title wins on the ITF Pro Circuit, Giustino eventually lifted his first trophy on the ATP Challenger Tour. The World No. 159 takes away from Kazakhstan $7,200 in prize money as well as 80 ATP-Ranking points.
On Saturday, Andrej Martin of Slovakia and Hans Podlipnik-Castillo from Chile took the doubles crowns. The No. 4 seeds upset the tournament’s top favourites Goncalo Oliveira of Portugal and Andrei Vasilevski from Belarus, winning 7-6(4), 3-6, 10-8. The encounter lasted one hour and 44 minutes.
