Sofia Kenin clinched the title of the Mallorca Open. The No. 7 seed from the United States defeated third favourite Belinda Bencic of Switzerland 6-7(2), 7-6(5), 6-4 in Sunday’s singles final at the Santa Ponsa Tenis Club.

Kenin sent down six aces, winning 65 per cent of her first service points and saved three championships points to prevail after two hours and 42 minutes.

“I’m playing really well, fighting for every point and taking as much advantage as I can,” Kenin said. “This really is great, and I’m just so happy with how I’m playing.”

The 20-year-old Florida resident clinched her second title of the season following her triumph in Hobart at the beginning of the year. Kenin earned €34,677 in prize money as well as 280 WTA-Rankin points.

Earlier in the day, Kirsten Flipkens from Belgium and Johanna Larsson of Sweden took the double crowns. The No. 2 seeds defeated the all-Spanish combination of Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez and Sara Sorribes Tormo 6-2, 6-4. The encounter lasted one hour and nine minutes.
