Canadian Brayden Schnur and Norbert Gombos of Slovakia will compete in Sunday’s singles final of the Winnipeg National Bank Challenger held on the courts of the Winnipeg Lawn Tennis Club.

Schnur defeated US-American Daniel Nguyen 6-2, 7-5 on Saturday. The No. 3 seed fired 14 aces, winning 70 per cent of his first service points to advance in one hour and 48 minutes. Gombos eased past Hiroki Moriya of Japan 6-4, 6-2 in one hour and 11 minutes.

Schnur is bidding to win his first ATP Challenger title. Sixth seed Gombos could lift his seventh career trophy, his second of the season following his triumph on home soil in Bratislava. The pair will meet for the first time.

Polansky/King crowned doubles champions

In the doubles final later in the afternoon, Canadians Adil Shamasdin and Peter Polanksy went head to head alongside their respective doubles partners, Hunter Reese of the United States and Darian King of Barbados. Polansky and King (No. 4) came out on top, upsetting their top-seeded opponents in a 7-6(8), 6-3 victory. The encounter lasted one hour and 38 minutes.
