Andy Murray returned to the court for his second round match at the Rafa Nadal Open by Sotheby’s International Realty on Tuesday evening. The former World No. 1, who is making his first appearance on the ATP Challenger Tour since 2005, defeated No. 3 seed Norbert Gombos from Slovakia 6-3, 6-4 in front of packed stands under the lights at the Rafa Nadal Nadal Academy.

Murray sent down six aces and won 68 per cent of his first-service points to prevail after one hour and 43 minutes.

“I did well it was a tough match. He hits the shots very hard so I had to do quite a lot of moving and defending. I thought I did that well. There are some things I like to do better but it was a decent match,” Murray was pleased with his performance.

Murray remained untroubled in his opening match on Monday cruising past French teenager Imran Sibille 6-0, 6-1 in only 42 minutes. He will next take on Matteo Viola of Italy, who edged past No. 16 seeded Spaniard Enrique Lopez Perez 6-7(6), 7-6(1), 6-0 in two hours and 25 minutes.

“I don’t play tomorrow having one day to rest that’s good, as my body is not used to play three or four matches in a row. I’ll make sure to get some good rest tomorrow and hopefully I feel good on Thursday,” Murray said.
