Filip Peliwo headlined Tuesday’s second-round action at the Atlantic Tire Championships held at Cary Tennis Park. The unseeded Canadian knocked out Daniel Elahi Galan of Colombia, the tournament’s No. 14, by the score of 1-6, 7-6(5), 6-4.

Peliwo withstood 13 aces, breaking his opponent’s serve two times to prevail after two hours and five minutes. The 25-year-old will next take on either No. 3 seeded US-American Bjorn Fratangelo or Michael Redlicki from the United States.

All other seeded singles players in action advanced to the third round led by fifth favourite Enzo Couacaud of France, who defeated 2017 champion Kevin King from the United States 6-1, 6-2 in one hour and 11 minutes. Couacaud will next play US-American Donald Young.

The evening’s first doubles match on stadium court featured two local wildcard teams. The duo of Tadas Babelis and Yannai Barkai from NC State overtook the Duke team of Sean Sculley and Nick Stachowiak. The event was heavily attended by alumni from both schools.

Wednesday is scheduled to play 15 matches with the second match on Stadium Court a matchup between two University of Virginia players, Thai-Son Kwiatkowski and Brandon Nakashima. It will be the first meeting for both Cavaliers. Capping off the night, No. 1 seed, Andreas Seppi will make his first tournament appearance as he takes on Great Britain’s Liam Broady. It will be the first meeting for both players.
