James Duckworth and Vasek Pospisil will compete in Sunday’s singles final of the Las Vegas Tennis Open. No. 5 seed Duckworth edged out Ernesto Escobedo from the United States 6-4, 7-6(5) on Saturday afternoon at the Frank and Vicki Fertitta Tennis Complex on the UNLV Campus.
The 27-year-old Australian fired 14 aces and won 89 per cent of his first-service points to secure victory in one hour and 20 minutes.
Earlier in the day, Pospisil defeated in-form Australian Christopher O’Connell 6-4, 6-3. The World No. 191 from Canada saved all three break points he faced and converted two of his own 10 chances to prevail after one hour and 15 minutes.
Pospisil won the only previous meeting between at Bogota 2013 and could lift his eighth ATP Challenger trophy, his first since Budapest, Hungary last year. Duckworth could clinch his third title of the season following his triumphs in Bangkok, Thailand and Baotou, China.
