STUTTGART, November 12, 2019
Germany’s No. 1 Alexander Zverev will open his 2020 grass-court season at the MercedesCup to be held in Stuttgart from 6 to 14 June. This was announced by the organizers of the ATP 250 event on Tuesday morning.
The 22-year-old, who is trying to defend his Nitto ATP Finals crown in London’s O2-Arena this week, will return to the Tennis Club Weissenhof for a second-straight year. Zverev fell to compatriot Dustin Brown in the opening round last year.
“It’s always a huge motivation for me to play in front of my fans in Germany and Stuttgart is a very special tournament with an unique atmosphere at the Weissenhof venue. That’s why I’m really looking forward to the MercedesCup next year,” Zverev stated in the tournament’s press release.

“Of course, I am very pleased that we can announce Alexander Zverev’s commitment to the MercedesCup 2020 at this early stage,” tournament director Edwin Weindorfer said.
“He is keeping up his improved form by reaching the semi-finals of the Beijing ATP 500 tournament, the final at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Shanghai and his impressive success over Rafael Nadal yesterday in London. I am convinced that he will take this momentum into the new year and will play a strong 2020 season. Of course, with his multi-variant game, he is also one of the favourites for the MercedesCup title win.”
