The ATP has extended the suspension of the ATP Tour through to July 31, 2020 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
The decision, made in close collaboration with Tour members, means the Hamburg European Open and the ATP events in Bastad (Sweden), Kitzbühel (Austria), Los Cabos (Mexico), Gstaad (Switzerland), Umag (Croatia), Atlanta and Newport (both USA) will not take place as scheduled.
The 2020 @SwissOpenGstaad (scheduled for July 18 to 26) has been cancelled. The tournament will return in summer 2021.

Organizers of the Swiss Open in Gstaad, the Plava Laguna Croatia Open Umag, the Nordea Open in Bastad, the Abierto de Tenis Mifel in Los Cabos, the Hall of Fame Open in Newport and the Truist Atlanta Open have already announced that the 2020 edition of their tournaments will not be held.
“The health and safety of everyone associated with tennis, the ATP Tour and the Truist Atlanta Open is paramount as we navigate the ongoing health crisis and coronavirus pandemic,” stated Eddie Gonzalez, Truist Atlanta Open Tournament Director. “Our thoughts are with everyone around the world that is being affected by COVID-19.”
Gonzalez added that the organization, and ownership group GF Sports & Entertainment, remain committed to making a difference in the Atlanta community. “We will continue to work with our partners to help make a positive impact on our community during these difficult times. As well, our team is now shifting focus to our 2021 event, where we hope to provide a unique and exciting experience for sports and tennis fans.” The 2021 Truist Atlanta Open is scheduled for July 24 – August 1, 2021.
ATP events in Hamburg and Kitzbühel postponed
Organizers of the Hamburg European Open as well as the Generali Open in Kitzbühel still hope to postpone their events to a later date in the season.
“Since there was no alternative, we expected the decision by the ATP. We are now focussing on a possible postponement of the tournament. Therefore, we have to closely monitor the rapidly evolving situation related to COVID-19 and we will wait for the next decisions of the ATP and the International Tennis Federation ITF regarding the North American swing, in particular the US Open,” Hamburg European tournament director Sandra Reichel said. The Hamburg European Open will not be held as scheduled July 11th to July 19th 2020.
“The most important signal for us at the moment is that our tournament was not canceled, but postponed. We are now hoping for a date in early September,” Kitzbühel tournament director Alexander Antonitsch said.
Tournaments taking place from August 1, 2020 onwards are still planning to proceed as per the published schedule. A further update on the ATP Tour calendar is expected in mid-June.
