TODI, August 16, 2020
Qualifying for the €88,520 Internazionali Di Tennis Citta Di Todi wrapped up on Sunday with local favourite Andrea Vavassori, who knocked out top seed Alexandre Muller of France celebrating a 6-4, 6-4 win.
The World No. 303 saved all seven break points he faced and capitalized on two of his own five break point chances to advance to the main draw after one hour and 54 minutes.
“I won a good match against Dalla Valle in the first round, then I played even better against Muller. I was solid and converted my chances. I’m happy to secure the win in the end,” Vavassori was pleased with his performance.
The 25-year-old Torino native will take on fourth seeded German Cedrik-Marcel in Stebe in the opening round, which kicks off on Monday.
Vavassori will be joined in the main draw of the ATP Challenger 100 event by Spanish teenager Carlos Alcaraz Garfia, who beat Borna Gojo of Croatia 6-4, 6-4 in one hour and 33 minutes. The 17-year-old from Murcia will start his seventh ATP Challenger campaign against Italy’s Gian Marco Moroni.
Andrea Arnaboldi emerged victorious from the all-Italian affair with wild card entry Matteo Gigante, winning 6-4, 6-0 in one hour and 17 minutes. The 32-year-old from Milan will play Mario Vilella Martinez of Spain in the first round.
Viktor Galovic of Croatian rounds out the quartet of qualifiers following a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Riccardo Bonadio of Italy. The World No. 269 prevailed after one hour and 45 minutes to meet No. 7 seed Yannick Hanfmann of Germany in the main draw.

No. 2 seed Marco Cecchinato will begin his home campaign against Andrea Collarini of Argentina. The 27-year-old Italian is a three-time champion on the ATP Tour and reached a career-high ranking of World No. 16 in February 2019. Collarini celebrated his maiden triumph on the ATP Challenger Tour in nearby L’Aquila last year.
