COLOGNE, October 10, 2020

The bett1HULKS Indoors, beginning October 12, is the first of two back-to-back ATP 250 tournaments in Cologne, Germany that have been added to the 2020 provisional schedule, as tennis continues its return following suspension of the season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Three-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray from Great Britain will open his campaign on Tuesday against Spanish veteran Fernando Verdasco. The winner of the first-round clash at the Lanxess Arena will face top seed and local favourite Alexander Zverev on Thursday.

Following a first-round bye, No. 2 seed Roberto Bautista Agut from Spain will take on the winner of the encounter between Frenchman Gilles Simon and Marton Fucsovics from Hungary. Canadian young gun and No. 3 seed Felix Auger-Aliassime will start against either German wild card entry Daniel Altmaier or a qualifier. Fourth favourite Benoit Paire from France will open his title bid against the winner of the match between Jordan Thompson of Australia and Austria’s Dennis Novak.

The bett1HULKS Championships immediately follows in the week of 19 October. The two other ATP 250 events added to the calendar are in Sardinia, Italy on clay and Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan on indoor hard. All four events have been issued as single-year licenses for 2020.
