The top two seeds of the Challenger Eckental have booked their spot in the quarterfinals. World No. 106 Kamil Majchrzak from Polan, No. 1 seed of the International German Indoor Championships, fought past Roman Safiullin of Russia 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 on Thursday afternoon at the House of Sports in Eckental.
Majchrzak converted four his eight break-point opportunities to secure victory in one hour and 21 minutes. Up next for the 24-year-old will be in-form German qualifier Marvin Moeller.
No. 2 seed Alexei Popyrin defeated Zdenek Kolar from the Czech Republic 6-4, 6-4. The 21-year-old Australian won 93 per cent of his first-service points and 55 per cent of the total points played to advance after one hour and 14 minutes. Popyrin, currently ranked World No. 110, will next face US-American young gun Sebastian Korda.
In other action, reigning Wolffkran Open champion Marc-Andrea Huesler defeated qualifier Matthias Bachinger from Germany 6-3, 6-1 in 55 minutes to oppose No. 3 seed Ilya Ivashka from Belarus in Friday’s quarterfinals. Ivashka cruised past Jurij Rodionov of Austria 6-0, 6-1 in only 47 minutes.
