Following the triumph of Sebastian Korda at the same place a week ago, Brandon Nakashima, another US-American young gun, was successful in northern France by clinching the title of the Open Quimper Bretagne Occidentale 2 on Sunday. The 19-year-old California native defeated Bernabe Zapata Miralles of Spain in 6-3, 6-4 in the final at the at the Parc des Expositions de Quimper, France.
Nakashima battled through the top half of the draw of the €44,820 ATP Challenger event with wins over French wild card entry Antoine Cornut-Chauvinc, Germany’s Maximilian Marterer and Lukas Lacko from Slovakia. The teenager struck five aces in the championship match and broke his opponent’s serve three times to seal victory in one hour and 17 minutes.

“Challenger title here in Quimper. Thanks to everyone for the support,” Nakashima stated on Instagram.
Nakashima, who hoisted his maiden Challenger trophy on home soil at the Orlando Open last year, pocketed in France €6,190 in prize money as well as 80 ATP Ranking points. The #NextGenATP star is projected to reach a new career-high ranking of World No. 135 on Monday.
Bemelmans/Masur take doubles title
On Saturday, Ruben Bemelmans from Belgium and Daniel Masur of Germany captured the doubles title. The unseeded duo defeated the all-US-American combination of Brandon Nakashima and Hunter Reese 6-2, 6-1. The encounter lasted 44 minutes. The winners split €2,670 in prize money and earned 80 ATP Doubles Ranking points.
