ROVINJ, March 20, 2021
Top seed Corentin Denolly of France and and US-American teenager Martin Damm will play the championship match of the second stop of the 49th Istarska Rivijera held at the Sports Center Eden in Rovinj, Istria.
Denolly ended the fine run of Italian qualifier Francesco Passaro in Saturday’s semi-finals of Croatia’s oldest tennis tournament series. The World No. 332 capitalized on four of his 14 break-point opportunities to secure a 6-4, 6-3 victory in one hour and 27 minutes.
Later in the afternoon, Damm, who edged out last week’s Porec champion Filip Misolic of Austria in the first round, battled past Giovanni Fonio of Italy 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(4). The 17-year-old World No. 3 of the ITF Juniors Ranking struck eight aces and won 72 per cent of his first-service points to prevail after two hours and 31 minutes.
Damm will appear in his second final on the ITF World Tennis Tour after finishing runner-up to Tomas Martin Etcheverry from Argentina at the M25 tournament in Naples, Florida 2019. Denolly is seeking his eighth career trophy on the Pro Circuit, his first since Tabarka, Tunisia two years ago.
