MARBELLA, April 4, 2021
Following one week of Challenger action on Spain’s Mediterranean coast, the European clay-court swing on the ATP Tour is ready to kick off in the glamorous resort town of Marbella at the AnyTech365 Andalucia Open. The ATP 250 tournament will be contested on a single-year licence in 2021 at the Club de Tenis Puente Romano.
The facility opened in 1979, under the management of Swedish legend Bjorn Borg, as part of Hotel Puente Romano. Forty-two years later, his 17-year-old son Leo Borg is set to make his ATP Tour qualifying debut at the same venue. The teenager will play Russian Evgeny Donskoy on Sunday afternoon.

World No. 15 Pablo Carreno Busta will lead the field in one of the Costa del Sol’s major tourist centres. After a first-round bye, the 29-year-old Spaniard will face a qualifier to open his home campaign. Italy’s Fabio Fognini will be seeded second and awaits the winner of the match between Spaniard Jaume Munar, finalist of the AnyTech365 Andalucia Open ATP Challenger Tour event this week, and a qualifier.
Norwegian young gun Casper Ruud and #NextGenATP Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz are also gearing up to hit the court at Estadio Manolo Santana, named after Spanish five-time Grand Slam champion and former Puente Romano club manager.
No. 3 seed Ruud will begin his title bid against either Mikhail Kukushkin from Kazakhstan or in-form Italian Gianluca Mager, the second Marbella Challenger finalist. Fourth favourite Albert Ramos-Vinolas will take on either Frenchman Lucas Pouille or Ricardas Berankis of Lithuania in the second round.
