Pablo Carreno Busta is the champion of the AnyTech365 Andalucia Open in Marbella. The top seed of the ATP 250 clay-court tournament emerged victorious from Sunday’s all-Spanish final with Jaume Munar, winning 6-1, 2-6, 6-4.

In the pair’s first meeting, Carreno Busta, who dropped one set en-route to the championship match, withstood six aces from Munar and broke his serve four times to prevail after two hours and 20 minutes.

“I started really good, really focused, being very aggressive … I suffered like yesterday trying to continue fighting all the time… I needed to do it if I wanted to win this kind of match,” Carreno Busta said. “It’s a pleasure to win a title here in Spain, in Marbella. For me, it’s very special. It’s my fifth title, so I’m very, very happy for the victory.”

Former World No. 1 Bjorn Borg, whose son Leo Borg competed in qualifying at the Club de Tenis Puente Romano, joined the finalists on court for the trophy ceremony.

“We saw a great final today with two great players and great tennis,” Borg said. “I think everybody agrees with me on that.”

“It’s an honour to have Bjorn and also Manolo Santana here,” Carreno Busta said. “It’s very special to us to play in front of these legends and it’s always a pleasure to hear these words from them.”

The World No. 15 secured his 200th tour-level victory and lifted his first trophy since the 2019 Chengdu Open in China taking away €40,000 in prize money as well as 250 ATP Ranking points from the Costa del Sol.

Behar/Escobar triumph in doubles

Earlier in the day, Ariel Behar from Uruguay and Gonzalo Escobar from Ecuador clinched the doubles title. The unseeded duo defeated Tomislav Brkic from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Nikola Cacic of Serbia 6-2, 6-4. The encounter lasted 61 minutes.

“It reassures us about the work we’ve put in on and off the court,” Escobar told ATPTour.com. “We’re happy to be winning, attaining a goal. It was tough to lose in Buenos Aires, where they always seemed to be on top. We changed a couple of things today, to make them uncertain and it worked.”
