The 2021 edition of the BMW Open is ready to kick off and two-time champion Alexander Zverev has already arrived in Munich, Germany. The International Bavarian Championships will be held on April 24 to May 2 at the venue of the MTTC Iphitos.
“Munich is a special place for me, to which I always like to return. The tournament is wonderfully organized and we players are very happy that we can now play here again,” said Zverev on Friday afternoon.
The World No. 6 will be the top seed of the clay-court event, which will take place behind closed doors due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis.
Zverev will be joined by a couple of in-form players such as #NextGenATP Italian Jannik Sinner, Aslan Karatsev of Russia, Norwegian young gun Casper Ruud and Serbia’s Filip Krajinovic.
Main draw wild cards have been awarded to Yannick Hanfmann of Germany and US-American rising star Sebastian Korda. His father Petr is a two-time finalist in Munich, finishing runner-up in 1992 and 1994. Local favourites Maximilian Marterer and Mischa Zverev received a wild card for the qualifying, which will start on Saturday.
Besides the prize cheque as well as 250 ATP Ranking points, this year’s champion will take away a brand new BMW M850i xDrive Gran Coupé from Munich.
