OEIRAS, April 26, 2021
Anhelina Kalinina has clinched her 11th career title on the Pro Circuit and her first since 2019 in Prerov, Czech Republic, by lifting the trophy of the Oeiras Magnesium-K Active Ladies Open held at the Centro Desportivo Nacional do Jamor in Oeiras, Portugal. In Sunday’s final of the ITF World Tennis Tour W25 clay-court tournament, the No. 3 seed from the Ukraine defeated Su Jeong Jang of South Korea 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.
Kalinina edged past Maryna Zanevska from Belgium, Lea Boskovic of Croatia, Eva Guerrero Alvarez from Spain and Simona Walter of Switzerland en-route to the title match.
The 24-year-old outpointed Jang 99-96 to prevail after three hours and five minutes.
“It was a match of ups and downs, we both lost a lot of games with good advantages. It was a roller coaster ride. It was a good preparation and I am happy to have played five consecutive matches, some of them in three sets,” Kalinina commented on the final.
“It was my first time in Portugal and I was very surprised by the level of organization. The tournament has everything the players need, everything is very simple and comfortable. I am very happy to have played here.”
