Benjamin Bonzi continued his great run of form this season by clinching his second ATP Challenger title. The 24-year-old Frenchman lifted the trophy of the Ostragroup Open by Moneta in Ostrava, Czech Republic. Bonzi defeated Renzo Olivo from Argentina in Sunday’s singles final 6-4, 6-4.
The No. 3 seed of the €44,820 clay-court event, hosted by the SC Ostrava, booked his place in the championship match with wins over Roman Safiullin of Russia, Czech wild card entry Jiri Lehecka, No. 5 seed Australian Marc Polmans and Elias Ymer from Sweden.
In the title match, Bonzi broke Olivo’s serve five times and won 53 per cent of the total points played to secure victory in one hour and 54 minutes.
Following his maiden Challenger triumph at the Potch Open in Potchefstroom, South Africa, Bonzi took away from Ostrava €6,190 in prize money as well as 80 ATP Ranking points.
Polmans/Stakhovsky win doubles title
On Saturday, Marc Polmans and Sergiy Stakhovsky from the Ukraine captured their first team title. The unseeded pair fought past Czech wild card entries Andrew Paulson and Patrik Rikl 7-6(4), 3-6, 10-7 in the final. The encounter lasted one hour and 18 minutes. Polmans and Stakhovsky split €2,670 in prize money and earned 80 ATP Doubles Ranking points.
