TROISDORF/MUNICH, May 16, 2021 (by Dietmar Kaspar)
Elmar Ejupovic from Germany captured the title of the TVM Open 2021 by TeReMeer. The ITF World Tennis Tour M15 event was held at the venue of the Rot-Weiss Troisdorf e.V. in the South-East of Cologne in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.
Wolfsburg-born Ejupovic emerged victorious from the all-German semifinal-encounter against No. 2 seed Sebastian Fanselow, who played college tennis for Pepperdine University, winning 7-6(3), 6-4.
The tournament’s top favourite Michael Geerts from Belgium stopped the run of German qualifier Timo Stodder in the stage of the last four. After three sets, the 26-year-old prevailed 6-3, 2-6, 7-6(4) against the former college player for University of Tennessee.
No. 4 seed Ejupovic sent down 14 aces in the championship match and won 90 per cent of his first-service points to secure a 7-6(4), 6-2 victory after two hours and seven minutes. The 28-year-old Lauffen am Neckar resident lifted his sixth career trophy on the ITF World Tennis Tour and earned 10 ATP ranking points.
“At the beginning of the match, I had problems with the windy conditions on court to get my strikes long enough, but I fought until six games all in the first set. After the rain delay, I felt better in the tie-break and during the second set to get the win after a really good match,” Ejupovic told Tennis TourTalk.
Asked about his upcoming tournaments and his goals, he said: “In the next weeks, I will try to enter some ATP Challenger tournaments. But at the moment the cut-offs are very high, so I have to mix my schedule with ITF tournaments. I want to raise my level to compete at the qualifying events of the Grand Slams and to reach the Top 100 as a long-term goal.”
In other action, Luke Johnson from Great Britain and Frenchman Dan Added captured the doubles title. The top seeded tandem battled past No. 4 seeds Juan Ignazio Galarza and Juan Pablo Paz from Argentina 6-4, 6-4 in the title match.
