Max Purcell is the champion of the $52,080 President’s Cup held on hard court at the National Tennis Center in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan. The No. 4 seed from Australia rallied past third-seeded Briton Jay Clarke 3-6, 6-4, 7-6(6) in Sunday’s singles final.
Purcell beat Alessandro Bega of Italy, Tung-Lin Wu and Yu Hsiou Hsu of Chinese Taipei as well as Canadian and No. 7 seed Peter Polansky en route to the title match.
The World 234 from Sydney, who scored the biggest win of his career against Gael Monfils at the ATP 250 grass-court tournament in Eastbourne last month, fired nine aces and won 84 per cent of his first-service points in the championship match to prevail after two hours and 25 minutes.

By lifting his second career trophy on the ATP Challenger Tour, his first since July 2016 in Gincheon, China, Purcell pocketed $7,200 in prize money as well as 80 ATP Ranking points.
Yu Hsiou Hsu/Lock doubles champions
On Saturday, Yu Hsiou Hsu of Chinese Taipei and Benjamin Lock from Zimbabwe claimed their first team title. The duo upset the tournament’s top seeds Peter Polansky from Canada and Ukrainian Sergiy Stakhovsky 2-6, 6-1, 10-7 in the doubles final. The encounter lasted one hour and seven minutes.
Yu Hsiou Hsu and Lock split $3,100 in prize money and earned 80 ATP Doubles Ranking points.
