The quarterfinals of the 58th edition of the Copa Sevilla, an ATP Challenger Tour tournament being held on clay at the Real Club de Tenis Betis, are set. Top seed Pablo Andujar leads the field after a hard-fought 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 win over fellow Spaniard and wild card entry Alvaro Lopez San Martin in the second round on Wednesday.
The World No. 74 from Cuenca broke his opponent’s serve six times to seal victory in two hours and five minutes. Andujar will next take on No. 7 seed Tomas Barrios Vera of Chile, who benefited from the retirement of Briton Jack Draper leading 6-4 in the opening set.
“I am very happy with this win, as it was a difficult match for me,” said Andujar. “He came out very strong without any pressure but I kept fighting and I am very pleased with my performance.”

Third seed Roberto Carballes Baena of Spain defeated Bulgarian youngster Adrian Andreev 6-4, 6-1 to meet Italian teenager Luciano Darderi in the stage of the final eight. The 19-year-old qualifier beat his compatriot and No. 6 seed Federico Gaio 6-0, 7-6(1) in one hour and 34 minutes.
The bottom half of the draw is led by No. 2 seed Pedro Martinez. The World No. 75 from Spain edged past Raul Brancaccio of Italy 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 and will next face Italian Flavio Cobolli.
Fourth favourite Carlos Taberner beat Julian Lenz from Germany 6-3, 6-3 and will next take on Gian Marco Moroni from Italy, who rallied from a set down to overcome No. 5 seeded Spaniard Bernabe Zapata Miralles 3-6, 6-1, 6-4. The encounter lasted two hours and 23 minutes.

Held on the unique yellow clay, the Copa Sevilla celebrated back-to-back 17-year-old champions Casper Ruud in 2016 and Felix Auger-Aliassime one year later. Kimmer Coppejans took the title in 2018 and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina clinched the trophy in 2019.
Last year’s edition had to be cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
