The Atlantic Tire Championships, an ATP Challenger Tour 80 tournament, started the second leg of its summer series on Monday at the Cary Tennis Park in Cary, North Carolina.
Two recent Cary champions advanced to the second round of the 32-player draw. Sixth seed Mitchell Krueger from the United States defeated Australian Jason Kubler 6-3, 6-2. Krueger is the current defending champion of the Atlantic Tire Championships having won the title in July of this year.
2020 titlist and No. 2 seed Denis Kudla outlasted fellow US-American Donald Young 7-6(3), 4-6, 6-2. Their compatriot JC Aragone joined Krueger and Kudla into the second round with a win over Denmark’s Mikael Torpegaard 3-6, 6-2, 6-3.
No. 3 seed Salvatore Caruso from Italy and Australians Aleksandar Vukic and Max Purcell also earned spots into the second round of the hard-court tournament.
The Atlantic Tire Championships is in its 6th year as a USTA Pro Circuit event.
