Coria, Munar Advance To Quarterfinals At Uruguay Open

The top two seeds of the Uruguay Open advanced to the quarterfinals at the Carrasco Lawn Tennis Club in Montevideo. No. 1 seed Federico Coria eased past Matheu Pucinelli de Almeida of Brazil 6-0, 6-3 on Wednesday.

The World No. 70 from Argentina, who is seeking his second ATP Challenger title of the season following his triumph at the Czech Open in Prostejov, converted five of his 13 break-point opportunities to seal victory in one hour and 21 minutes. Coria will next face his compatriot Santiago Rodriguez Taverna, who battled past No. 6 seed Juan Pablo Varillas from Peru 3-6, 7-6(4), 7-6(6). The 22-year-old alternate from Buenos Aires struck eight aces and won 62 per cent of his first-service points to prevail after three hours and 30 minutes.

Munar beats Cachin

In the bottom half of the draw of the $52,080 ATP Challenger clay-court tournament, No. 2 seed Jaume Munar defeated Pedro Cachin of Argentina 6-4, 7-6(4). The World No. 89 from Spain capitalized on six of his seven break-point chances and won 52 per cent of the total points played to succeed after two hours and 10 minutes.

Up next for Munar will be Camilo Ugo Carabelli, who knocked off fellow Argentine and eighth seed Tomas Etcheverry 4-6, 6-2, 7-5. The encounter lasted three hours and four minutes.
