Joao Sousa and Alex Molcan advanced to the singles final of the HPP Open, being held at the Tali Tennis Center in Helsinki, Finland. Sousa headlined Saturday’s action by knocking out No. 2 seed Henri Laaksonen from Switzerland 6-4, 6-3.

The World No. 147 from Portugal capitalized on three of his four break-point chances to seal victory in one hour and six minutes.

Later in the day, Molcan ended the run of Russian qualifier Alexander Shevchenko, winning 6-2, 7-6(4). The No. 3 seed of the €44,820 ATP Challenger Tour tournament withstood eight aces and broke his opponent’s serve two times to prevail after one hour and 19 minutes.

Sousa is seeking his fifth ATP Challenger career title, his first trophy since winning on home soil at the 2018 Estoril Open. Molcan could capture his second Challenger title following his maiden triumph at Svijany Open in Liberec in August. The pair will meet for the first time.

Erler/Miedler claim doubles title

In other action, Alexander Erler and Lucas Miedler took the doubles title. The all-Austrian duo edged past top seeds Harri Heliovaara from Finland and Jean-Julien Rojer of the Netherlands 6-3, 7-6(2). The encounter lasted one hour and 18 minutes.

Erler and Miedler claimed their third team title. They split €2,600 in prize money and earn 80 ATP Doubles Ranking points.
