Murray Christmas for the tennis fans in Stuttgart. Three-time Grand-Slam champion Andy Murray will play at the 2022 MercedesCup. This was announced by the organizers of the ATP 250 grass-court event on Monday. The tournament will be held from June 4 to 12 at the Tennis Club Weissenhof.
“My game will improve over the off-season,” said Murray after his quarterfinal defeat at the Stockholm Open in mid-November, his last tournament of the year. “I just need to make sure with my team that we get a good plan in place to make sure that come the beginning of January those improvements have been made.”
The 34-year-old Briton is currently ranked World No. 134 but had been ranked World No. 1 for 41 weeks, and finished as the year-end No. 1 in 2016.
Murray will try to join Rafael Nadal (2015), Dominic Thiem (2016), Roger Federer (2018) and Marin Cilic (2021) in the club of former Grand-Slam champions, who also lifted the MercedesCup trophy.
“I’m always looking forward to the grass-court season, so I’ll start my preparations for it a little earlier than usual next year. I will be playing on grass in Stuttgart for the first time and I am really looking forward to this new experience,” Murray said.
