British young gun Jack Draper captured his first title on the ATP Challenger Tour. The 20-year-old lefty won the €45,730 Città di Forli 2, the second consecutive hard-court tournament this season hosted by the Cooperativa Tennis Villa Carpena in Forli, Italy.
Draper defeated his compatriot and No. 3 seed Jay Clarke 6-3, 6-0 in Sunday’s singles final. The eighth favourite from Sutton, England fired eight aces and broke his opponent’s serve seven times to seal victory in one hour and 13 minutes.
Draper only dropped one set en route to the championship match, beating Roberto Quiroz from Ecuador, Italian teenager Luca Nardi, US-American Alexander Ritschard and Zsombor Piros of Hungary.
“I’m unbelievably happy to win my first Challenger. It’s definitely something I’ve been working towards for a long time,” said Draper, quoted by the ATP Challenger Tour.
The World No. 262, a winner of seven titles on the ITF Pro Circuit, pocketed €6,190 in prize money as well as 80 ATP Ranking points.
Doumbia/Reboul claim doubles title
On Saturday, Sadio Doumbia and Fabien Reboul clinched the doubles title. The No. 2 seeds from France defeated Nicola Mejia of Colombia and Alexander Ritschard 6-2, 6-3. The encounter lasted one hour and four minutes.
By winning their ninth team title on the ATP Challenger Tour, Doumbia and Reboul split €2,670 in prize money and earned 80 ATP Doubles Ranking points.
