The 24 nations contesting the Qualifiers this weekend are competing for a place at the 2022 Davis Cup by Rakuten Finals. The 12 winning nations will secure a place in the Davis Cup Finals group stage in September.
Sweden hosts Japan on indoor hard court at the Helsingborg Arena with a capacity of 4,700 spectators. The city of Helsingborg with about 110,000 inhabitants is the centre of the northern part of western Scania and Sweden’s closest point to Denmark.
The tie marks the second meeting for the two nations but their first since facing each other in a World Group first-round clash in Yokohama 41 years ago, when Sweden won all five matches for the loss of just one set.

Sweden’s top singles player and World No. 85 Mikael Ymer, who has won 10 of his last 14 Davis Cup matches, will open the tie against Yosuke Watanuki on Friday afternoon followed by his brother Elias Ymer taking on Japan’s No. 1 Taro Daniel.
In Saturday’s doubles rubber, Andre Goransson and Dragos Madaras are scheduled to face Yasutaka Uchiyama and BenMcLachlan. The reverse singles rubbers will be played afterwards.
