Two of the three seeds in Thursday’s second-round action have booked their spots in the quarterfinal of the San Luis Open. Defending champion Marc-Andrea Huesler edged past 17-year-old Chinese qualifier Juncheng Shang 6-4, 7-6(6). The No. 6 seed of the $53,120 ATP Challenger clay-court tournament struck 12 aces and won 81 per cent of his first-service points to secure victory in one hour and 40 minutes.
Huesler will next play Zhizhen Zhang of China, who outlasted Nicola Mejia from Colombia 7-5, 6-7(4), 6-3 after three hours and two minutes.

In the bottom half of the draw, Nicolas Jarry battled past Brazilian qualifier Gilbert Klier Junior 6-7(6), 6-4, 6-4. The second-seeded Chilean saved both break points he faced and capitalized on two of his own four break-point chances to prevail after two hours and 42 minutes.
Jarry faces Felipe Meligeni Rodrigues Alves in the stage of the final eight. The World No. 199 from Brazil knocked out No. 5 seed Jay Clarke from the Great Britain 6-4 ,6-0. The encounter lasted one hour and 18 minutes.
