The 106th edition of the BMW Open by American Express is ready to kick off on Saturday. As in the past, the ATP 250 clay-court event hosted by the MTTC Iphitos in Munich is the first stop for the male tennis pros in Germany.
“We have two Top 10 players, former tournament champions and new promising faces in the field. I’m looking forward to an exciting tournament week,” said tournament director Patrik Kühnen. “We are ready and everything is set here at MTTC Iphitos for a fantastic week of world-class tennis,” added Dr. Fabian Tross, Managing Director of Iphitos Veranstaltungs GmbH.
Qualifying will begin on Saturday and main draw action gets underway on Monday. This year’s singles champion will receive the famous Lederhosen as well as a brand new BMW i4 M50. The BMW i4 combines characteristic sportiness with elegant design. Electromobility has reached the traditional core of the BMW brand. The four-door Gran Coupé is the first all-electric BMW that is consistently geared towards driving dynamics. Powerful efficient drive technology and intelligent lightweight construction are combined with inspiring driving dynamics and a long range.

Zverev to lead the field
Home favourite Alexander Zverev will be the tournament’s top seed. The World No. 3 makes his first appearance on German soil since winning the gold medal at the Olympic Games in Tokyo. Zverev arrived in Munich on Thursday.
The 25-year-old Hamburg native was in the semi-finals in of the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters last week, but was struggling with a muscle injury. Two-time Munich champion Zverev, who experienced a bumpy start into the season, is trying to get to his best at the International Bavarian Championships.
“I’m very happy to be back here and I just feel good in Munich. Of course, I’m also looking forward to playing in front of spectators again and to a hopefully nice week,” said Zverev.
