For the seventh time the ATP Challenger Tour will return to Perugia, the capital city of Umbria in central Italy, crossed by the River Tiber. The city with about 170,000 inhabitants is located about 164 kilometres north of Rome and 148 kilometres southeast of Florence. It covers a high hilltop and part of the valleys around the area.
Perugia is also a well-known cultural and artistic centre of Italy. The city hosts multiple annual festivals and events, e.g., the Eurochocolate Festival (October), the Umbria Jazz Festival (July), and the International Journalism Festival (in April), and is associated with multiple notable people in the arts.
The stars of the Challenger Tour will be playing at the Tennis Club Perugia, one of the oldest venues on the Circuit with a 120-year-old heritage, from June 5 to 12. The Internazionali di Tennis Città di Perugia | G.I.Ma. Tennis Cup will offer a total prize money of €134,920. The champion will earn 125 ATP Ranking points.

The 7th edition of the clay-court tournament will be held from June 6 to 12, 2022 at the Perugia Tennis Club.

The event will be organized by MEF Tennis events. Former World No. 21 Francesco Cancellotti will serve as the tournament director.
“Organizing an ATP Challenger 125 is a big effort, because of the transition from Challenger 80 level to 125. In addition to the difference in prize money, there are important economic commitments derived from higher level service standards,” Cancellotti said during the official launch of the tournament earlier this week.
“The favorable date after the end of Roland-Garros means that Perugia is the last tournament on clay before the start of the grass-court swing and becomes a milestone for the great champions of this sport to earn important ATP points. We are sure that these conditions, combined with the quality of the tournament already known to the players, will bring us many competitors among the Top 100. Players of the caliber of Stefanos Tsitsipas, Lorenzo Musetti and Pablo Carreno Busta competed here, but we can expect much more this year. It will be a week of great tennis like never before in Perugia.”
